Lu Kemp: Have Your Circumstances Changed? (2015)

FADSHub & Cafe has been completely taken over for the month of June by Artangel and transformed into an exciting and thought provoking project.

Have Your Circumstances Changed? Is a triptych of performance duets showing the intimate routine of an older man’s daily life.  Running from 3 - 28 June 2015 in the evening and weekends.

About the project:

15-minute performances by director Lu Kemp, with older men from Islington and collaborators Elena Peña, Cis O'Boyle, Ben Lewis and Jamie Vartan.

Have Your Circumstances Changed? is a is funny, dark and problematic set of theatrical duets between an ageing man and a growing boy. Developed through collaboration led by Lu Kemp with older men in Islington, these performances will confront passers-by with the intimate routine of an older man’s daily life. The choreography of their everyday actions questions the quality and responsibility of care within contemporary society.

Taking place in three domestic settings, kitchen, living room and bathroom, Have Your Circumstances Changed? raises broader questions about human vulnerability as more of us live longer and need to adapt to the challenges of daily life – at a time when we are at our least adaptable. And who has the responsibility of care in this extending period of life?

Book your place to see Have Your Circumstances Changed? now. To offer the opportunity of experiencing the work to as wide an audience as possible Artangel are operating a 'pay what you can' policy, with a suggested donation of £12 to secure your place to see all three performances.

Barista Academy graduates get awarded at FADS

Following three rounds of our successful Barista Training Academy with Coffea Arabica at FADS Hub in Archway, our amazing, local Islington community candidates Javier, Grace, Amina, Barney, Carla, Tim & Amelia were all presented with their ‘Barista Certificates’ on Thursday 20 November 14 by Leader of Islington Council, Cllr Richard Watts.

The intensive Training Academy provided by Daisy Rollo of Coffea Arabica, who has worked with the London School of Coffee for 7 years as a lead trainer, is part of our ongoing work at FADS, the community hub & space within the Hill House development project in Archway. Two full days of training followed by a complete assessment will enable our candidates to secure jobs in the coffee & cafe industry.

On the first day candidates learn about the origins, cultivation, processing, roasting and the perfect extraction. Then look at milk texturing followed by the menu and how to deliver each of these drinks and finally finish by equipment cleaning and maintenance.

The second day is a practical day where candidates are delivering drinks to customers at the FADS coffee bar, looking particularly at quality and consistency. After the training and further days experience working in FADS cafe they will be assessed and receive a Barista certificate.

And staying with coffee:

Having developed partnerships with other amazing companies in this fashionable industry including Climpson & Sons for our coffee and La Marzocco UK who supply our machines we delighted to bring to BL-NK in Old Street La Marzocco’s ‘Out of the Box’.
